Job Description

A contract opportunity is available for a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) to provide 1:1 support for a third-grade student requiring leave coverage. This position runs from July 1st through August 13th, with working hours from 7:45 AM to 1:45 PM, totaling 30 hours per week.

Location:The assignment is based in the Decatur, GA area, with preference given to interpreters located in or near Douglasville, GA, and surrounding communities.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct one-on-one sign language interpretation for a third-grade student.
• Support the student during half of the day in the Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH) setting.
• Interpret in the general education classroom for the remainder of the school day.
• Ensure clear and accurate communication to facilitate the student's full participation.
• Collaborate with educators and staff to address the student's communication needs.

Qualifications / Desired Experience:

• Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) with prior experience interpreting in educational settings.
• Ability to work effectively with young children, especially in elementary school environments.
• Understanding of the needs of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Availability to commit to the entire leave coverage period.
