POSITION DESCRIPTION

HGL is currently seeking a junior/mid-level Geologist to support our Merritt Island, Fl Location. The person hired for this position will be supporting our long-term Florida contracts for the Air Force (Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Patrick Space Force Base, and Homestead Air Reserve Base), NASA Kennedy Space Center, and regional EPA projects. Our projects are focused on environmental investigation, remediation, and performance monitoring to reach site closure. Projects commonly involve sites with groundwater and soil impacted emerging contaminants (PFAS) chlorinated solvents, and petroleum compounds.

This is a full-time position working in our Merritt Island, FL office and also includes field activities. This role will start fully in-office, and may eventually move to a hybrid work schedule after 3-6 months.

Responsibilities/Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING


The person hired for this role will be responsible for:

  • Managing and conducting environmental field investigations and remediation projects.
  • Manage /lead field operations and conduct in a safe manner in accordance with project specific Site Safety and Health Plans / Health and Safety Plans.
  • Participating and/or lead field teams for collection of groundwater, soil, surface water, and soil vapor samples utilizing various sampling techniques.
  • Oversee subcontractor actions for sites including monitoring well installation, DPT sampling, waste transportation and disposal.
  • Contributing to the preparation of work plans and project deliverables (e.g., UFP-QAPPs, FSPs, RI/FS Reports, SSHP/HASPs, technical memoranda).
  • Assisting with data entry, analysis, and interpretation of environmental data using statistical and visualization tools.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related field.
  • 2+ years’ experience of directly related experience in the environmental field.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and oral) including the ability to comfortably engage with varying levels of leadership, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong writing skills with prior experience contributing to the preparation of technical reports, memorandum, and work plans.
  • Previous experience with environmental investigations including various groundwater, soil, and soil vapor sampling methodologies.
  • Coordination of field subcontractors for environmental investigation and/or remediation activities. The above-described experience on a CERCLA, DoD, DOE, EPA, or RCRA project/site.
  • Possess or obtain OSHA HAZWOPER certification upon employment and be able to work in various levels of PPE, if required.

Preferred Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT – Preferred, not required

  • Experience working on U.S. federal contracts.
  • Experience as a task manager or field team leader for environmental investigations.
  • M.S. degree in Geology or related field.
  • Geologist-in-Training or Professional Geologist Certification (or capable of obtaining designation within one year), depending on experience.

The salary range for this position ranges from $57,432- $83,276. This position's final salary can be impacted by various factors including, but not limited to, contractual requirements, geographic location, job-related education, training, experience, and skills.
