JOB OPENING – Logistics Manager – Des Moines

Walsh Door & Security is seeking a Logistics Manager to be a part of the team at our Des Moines location. The Logistics Manager is responsible for managing the flow of goods from origin to destination efficiently, cost-effectively, and on time. This role ensures proper coordination between suppliers, carriers, and our internal team to meet operational goals. Walsh Door & Security is a growing company with 170+ employees and three locations – Des Moines, Iowa City and Kansas City. This is a full-time position which reports to the Distribution Manager.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a strategic vision for the logistics department to support overall business growth and operational excellence.
  • Develop and maintain standardized logistics processes and playbooks, including request validation, job scheduling, and carrier selection.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
  • Establish and manage relationships with third-party carriers and logistics vendors, including contract negotiation and performance oversight.
  • Forecast future resource requirements, such as drivers, warehouse capacity, and external carriers, based on sales projections and business growth.
  • Oversee fleet management decisions, including acquisition, maintenance, optimization, and disposal of vehicles to meet operational needs.
  • Lead staffing efforts for the logistics team, including hiring, coaching, and performance management, to develop and sustain a strong, high-performing team.
  • Provide recommendations for facilities improvements or expansions related to logistics, focusing on safety, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Monitor logistics costs, identifying cost-saving opportunities while ensuring delivery and service goals are consistently achieved.
  • Provide leadership in resolving complex or high-impact challenges, such as escalated customer issues or new regulatory requirements.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop logistics staff, including coordinators and drivers, creating a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Manufacturing, and Distribution teams to ensure logistics strategies are aligned with company objectives and customer expectations.

Job Requirements:

  • A degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field—or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
  • A proven track record of organization, communication, and follow-through.
  • Proven record of effective execution in logistics or supply chain roles.
  • A strong, dependable work ethic and high personal accountability.
  • Flexibility and a positive, solutions-oriented attitude when priorities shift.
  • Comfortable and effective as a change agent, with experience leading organizational transformations.
  • Professionalism, courtesy, and strong interpersonal skills when dealing with both customers and internal teams.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
