Job Description

A full-time Sign Language Interpreter is needed for a K-12 school setting in Gastonia, NC. This is a contracted position for the current school year, providing essential communication support to students and staff.

Responsibilities:

• Facilitate effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their teachers, peers, and school staff using American Sign Language (ASL).
• Interpret spoken language and educational content accurately and impartially during classroom instruction, school events, and meetings.
• Collaborate with educators and support personnel to ensure accessibility and understanding of curriculum.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
• Assist with the development of individualized education plans (IEPs) related to communication needs.

Qualifications:

• Proficient fluency in American Sign Language.
• Prior experience in educational settings interpreting for K-12 students preferred.
• Strong knowledge of deaf culture and communication best practices.
• Ability to adapt quickly to various classroom environments.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
