Utility Line Locator

Summary:

The qualified candidate shall be available full-time with specific skill sets related to utility line locating. Possessing a functional knowledge of all locating equipment, including setup, acquisition styles, and equipment limitations with respect to project tolerances and expectations. We require the employee to be reliable, detail-oriented, possess good work ethic, and maintain a positive attitude with excellent communication skills. The employee must be able to work independently and will be responsible for overseeing the accuracy and ensuring the integrity of all aspects of the project, including routine maintenance of all utility locating equipment. The qualified candidate must stay acquainted with the latest surveying technology methods and be open to adapting to new equipment and technologies. Candidate will need to be able to travel and work overtime with a working truck and a clean driving record.

Responsibilities:

• 
  Ability to use magnetic, radar, and electrical equipment to locate lines
• 
  Ability to utilize GPS or surveying equipment to pinpoint coordinates of lines
• 
  Perform calculations to arrive at the depth of lines
• 
  Complete detailed and accurate daily reports and forms
• 
  Prepare and maintain legible field notes and sketches for all work performed
• 
  Maintain all utility equipment and keep truck stocked with necessary supplies and tools
• 
  Coordinate work of assigned subordinate personnel
• 
  Assist and train personnel in lower-level positions
• 
  Make accuracy and calibration checks and adjustments on the equipment used
• 
  Ability to communicate clearly with Utility Representatives, organize 811 \1 call tickets to complete research and schedule locating projects.

Required Skills and Experience:

• 
  High school diploma or GED
• 
  Minimum of (2) years of experience using radio detection, electromagnetic, and ground penetrating radar (GPR) equipment.
• 
  Must be willing and able to quick grasp new technologies and instruments.
• 
  Must have a clean driving record
• 
  Must be willing to work overtime and weekends
• 
  Must be willing to travel
• 
  Ability to work outside in all seasons/ Comfortable working along roadways or near congested traffic
